Vitreous Enamel Cladding

Vitreous Enamel Cladding

Vitreous enamel cladding is one of the most reliable and hard-wearing materials used in the architecture and construction industry today. It is a zero-fire rated and zero smoke rated material that can be manufactured as either flat or flanged tray panels to form an architectural cladding finish, artwork installation or a rain shield system.

Why use vitreous enamel cladding?

Vitreous enamel cladding is a long term, extremely durable and robust cladding material  – in fact, it is virtually indestructible! We design, manufacture, and install fully customisable and bespoke cladding or rain shield systems. The panels are extremely versatile and can be used to solve a number of issues.

Vitreous enamel cladding emits zero smoke, and is fire retardant. It is resistant to graffiti damage, and weather resistant in extreme climates. When used on buildings it forms high strength architectural cladding panels that can be guaranteed for 25 years. This type of cladding is specified in commercial, industrial and infrastructure  projects  around the world – railway stations, underground stations, airport terminals. tunnels, shopping malls. corporate offices, and as  cladding for commercial and residential buildings.

As well as being extremely durable, vitreous enamel panels can be decorative. They can be accurate colour matched and screen printed with designs, logos and even maps.

What is vitreous enamel cladding?

Large low carbon steel panels are fused with powdered glass “frit” at high temperatures which results in the glass frit chemically bonding to the steel to create vitreous enamel panels.

The panels are typically 1.5mm thick once enamelled and to improve structural support and to meet stringent crowd loading requirements of high impact areas these panels can be back with either a cementitious board or an aluminium honeycomb board.

However, Links Signs can offer a 3mm thick Vitreous Enamel panels which meets these requirements without the need for any back whatsoever. This can be seen on the Elizabeth Line project s we have delivered.

Vitreous enamel panels are an aesthetically beautiful, impactful, durable, and reliable material for cladding projects.
