Links Signs and the NHS Ambu-Buses
Supporting Transport for London, the NHS and Go Ahead London, Links Signs helped transform two electric London buses into “Ambu-buses” to help transport Covid 19 patients in London, UK.
Links Signs installed special “blockout” vinyl to two London buses to help protect the privacy of the NHS staff, volunteer St John’s Ambulance teams, and the patients inside.
Seats have been removed from the single-decker buses and essential medical and oxygen supplies have been added to the buses to turn them into temporary ambulances. Each bus can now transport four passengers at a time to the Nightingale Hospital at the ExCeL centre in London from other London Hospitals.
The buses are owned by Go Ahead and have been loaned to the NHS. Go Ahead also reported that they had been inundated by volunteer drivers from their own staff, all of whom have been vaccinated.
A fast delivery time on this project was key. Links Signs received the enquiry from Transport for London on 12 January 2021 and the graphics were fitted by two of Links Signs’ own fully trained and accredited team on 15 January 2021. The buses are already transporting patients between Guy’s Hospital, and King’s College Hospital to the Nightingale Hospital in London.

Links Signs took on the challenge to provide the awards for the first Transport for London Supplier Awards. Using products and materials that are supplied to TfL for our station signage, Links created very impressive plaques for our winners and runners up. Throughout the production process Links kept TfL up to date with images, delivery schedule and were always on hand to clarify any queries. We look forward to working with them again next year.Amanda Green – Transport for London
Link Signs provide a first class service throughout the design, production and delivery process. Links Signs successfully managed a complex project overseeing the manufacture and installation of 48 panels to create a bespoke mural on the Transport for London (TfL) owned bridge and the station entrance at Northwood Hills station. Links ensured not only that all the technical and engineering requirements of TfL were met but also that the extensive colour hues specified by mural artists Gordon Collett and Cosmo Sarson were achieved. The finished result is wonderful, as summed up by Mayor of London Boris Johnson when he visited ‘My God, it’s beautiful! Did we do this? The murals – they’re sensational!’ He added: ‘I think it’s all fantastic, really imaginative. I’m very proud.’Helena Webster – Town Centre Improvements Team Manager, London Borough of Hillingdon
