London Underground is a world-leading transport system at the forefront of technological innovation and advances in service. The Night Tube is the latest addition to its portfolio. The growing demands of London meant London Underground needed to react and offer increased capacity across its network.
Night Tube launched in August 2016, initially across the Victoria and Central lines. The service opened later that Autumn on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines – providing true 24 hour service.
Links Signs surveyed selected station roundels and then manufactured new branded signage designed to fit them exactly. We also created new signage to fit the front of the first train to run on the new service. Because these works were carried out in strict confidence, the installations took place over a short window of opportunity. Working alongside the Transport for London design team, all of the roundels were rebranded on schedule by Links Signs’ expert installation team.
The work itself involves digitally printing designs onto specific material approved for installation in sub-surface rail environments. We then digitally cut the signs to the exact size and shape to fit the chosen Station roundels.
The new service was launched by Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan and London Underground Managing Director, Mark Wild. Check out our photo gallery below, for images from the Night Tube launch event.
‘This was a really exciting project to work on. Links Signs has a long association with London Underground, delivering special projects like this. We are extremely proud to work with this iconic, world-leading transport system and be part of its history. We look forward to continuing to be part of its future.”
