Links Signs Sponsors 2017 TfL Supplier Awards

In November, London Transport Museum partnered with Transport for London to host the inaugural pan-TfL Supplier Awards. The evening celebrated best practice and excellence in collaboration between TfL and its suppliers. Links Signs had the privilege of attending and also sponsoring one of the award categories: Best Environmental Initiative. A total of nine categories were represented at the ceremony, with each being sponsored by a TfL partner organisation. Those same categories also awarded those who had made the shortlist of nominees.

In addition, we were honoured to be approached by TfL to design and produce all of the awards handed to each of the winners and those shortlisted at the event. Due to awards being presented to both winners and shortlisted nominees, two different types of award were required. Winners received beautiful screen printed vitreous enamel trophies, framed with the same type of extrusions used in actual TfL wayfinding signage. Shortlisted nominees took away with them free-standing vitreous enamel display plaques.

Best Environmental Initiative (Sponsored by Links Signs): Winner – Ferrovial / Laing O’Rourke JV. Shortlisted – GoAhead London, WSP.
Efficiencies & Innovation (Sponsored by Cubic): Winners – Siemens, Telent. Shortlisted – Balfour Beatty, JC Decaux.
Collaboration Award (Sponsored by Mott MacDonald): Winner – Bam Nuttall. Shortlisted – Cubic, Kallidus, Telent.
Best Scheme for Apprentices (Sponsored by Engie): Winner – Thales, Exterion Media. Shortlisted – Bombardier, MTR Crossrail.
Best Scheme for Apprentices (Sponsored by Engie): Special Recognition – Exterion Media.

Links Signs successfully managed a complex project overseeing the manufacture and installation of 48 panels to create a bespoke mural on the Transport for London (TfL) owned bridge and the station entrance at Northwood Hills station. Links ensured not only that all the technical and engineering requirements of TfL were met but also that the extensive colour hues specified by mural artists Gordon Collett and Cosmo Sarson were achieved. The finished result is wonderful, as summed up by Mayor of London Boris Johnson when he visited ‘My God, it’s beautiful! Did we do this? The murals – they’re sensational!’ He added: ‘I think it’s all fantastic, really imaginative. I’m very proud.’
