Links Signs Completes West Drayton Mural Cladding

Links Signs has completed an urban renewal project on behalf of Hillingdon Borough Council, delivering a series of vitreous enamel cladding panels beneath West Drayton bridge, depicting historical moments of local interest to the community. The walls of the pedestrian walkways on each side of the bridge now sport a series of colourful murals. Hillingdon Borough Council hired design agency Designed by Good People to design the murals and Links Signs to print, manufacture and install them.

Survey and Planning

Before commencing manufacture, our surveyors undertook a detailed inspection of the bridge and the public walkways. Our Design team then used the survey information to produce detailed schematics and visualisations for the proposed works. The client was fully informed of all survey, structural and design recommendations throughout. We always ensure our clients are included in key decision making at every stage of a project. Careful project management and planning also ensured that our fully accredited installation specialists had detailed specs to work to once the panels were ready to install.

Vitreous Enamel Mural Cladding

The mural panels are made from vitreous enamel – a fusion of powdered glass and stainless steel and one of the most durable materials in the sign-making industry. It is the perfect choice for exterior murals and urban renewal projects. There are two separate runs of murals, each consisting of 20 VE panels. The panels are supported by a series of 25 x 50 mm steel box section subframes.

Above each run of cladding panels, an additional 16 Luminaire lighting panels were fitted. These provide constant lighting for the pedestrian walkways on each side of the bridge, as well as nicely illuminating the murals themselves. As a final touch, two sets of red powdercoated arrows and silver built-up letters were manufactured. These connect to and form part of the red line motif running through the series of murals. They serve to indicate direction of travel to pedestrians, towards either West Drayton or Yiewsley.
