London Underground is a world leading transport system that is often at the front of innovation, technological advances and services, and Night Tube is the latest addition to its portfolio. The growing demands of London, a World class city has meant London Underground needs to react and offer continued increased transport across its system.
Night Tube started on Friday 19th August 2016 across the Victoria and Central lines (initially), with the Jubilee line, Northern line and Piccadilly line opening to 24 hours from this autumn.
Links Signs were asked to survey and manufacture new special artwork to be applied to selected station roundels and to the front of the very first train to run on the service. The works were carried out in strict confidence, working alongside the Transport for London design team. The installations took place over a short window of opportunity, and were all carried out by Links Signs’ in house installation teams.
The works involved digitally printing designs onto specific material approved for installation in sub-surface rail environments, digitally cutting them to the correct size and shape for installation onto existing Vitreous Enamel signs.
The new service was Launched by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and Managing Director of London Underground Mark Wild, both can be seen below next to one of the new Night Tube Roundels supplied by Links Signs.

Link Signs provide a first class service throughout the design, production and delivery process. Links Signs went and above and beyond to meet our requirements and surpassed our expectations. I would highly recommend and endorse working with Link Signs.Catherine Villegas – Project Manager, Transport for London

Links Signs successfully managed a complex project overseeing the manufacture and installation of 48 panels to create a bespoke mural on the Transport for London (TfL) owned bridge and the station entrance at Northwood Hills station. Links ensured not only that all the technical and engineering requirements of TfL were met but also that the extensive colour hues specified by mural artists Gordon Collett and Cosmo Sarson were achieved. The finished result is wonderful, as summed up by Mayor of London Boris Johnson when he visited ‘My God, it’s beautiful! Did we do this? The murals – they’re sensational!’ He added: ‘I think it’s all fantastic, really imaginative. I’m very proud.’Helena Webster – Town Centre Improvements Team Manager, London Borough of Hillingdon
